Berkey water filters use gravity-fed technology so no electricity is required for filtering; two sets of black filters should filter 6000 gallons before needing replacement.
Efficient portable generators make camping, travel and unexpected emergencies much simpler – not to mention they make a beautiful addition to any home or office!
What is a Berkey Water Filter?
A Berkey water filter is a portable gravity-fed stainless steel system. Setup is simple and doesn’t require installation or connection to an existing water source – perfect for filtering tap water, well water or outdoor freshwater sources like lakes, rivers and ponds during camping trips or emergencies.
This system can even remove toxins like Chromium-6, an industrial by-product found in approximately 35 percent of private wells. Furthermore, this system can eliminate harmful microorganisms such as coliform and E. coli while decreasing levels of Giardia duodenalis that causes diarrhea for up to six weeks or cryptosporidium resistant to chlorine disinfection.
All Berkey water filters come equipped with two Black Berkey elements, which can be upgraded to four for an additional $110 fee and double the filtration speed and lifespan of each filter. Each tank holds 2.25 gallons and can be filled while filtering.
The Berkey Water Filter Process
Black Berkey filters use both ionic absorption and adsorption to cleanse their filters of harmful particles, including viruses, pathogenic cysts and parasites, VOCs detergents organic solvents cloudiness silt heavy metals trihalomethanes etc. By employing both processes simultaneously they eliminate or at least significantly reduce such substances while leaving our bodies with essential healthy minerals that they need.
Berkey systems are easy to use even without electricity, making them perfect for taking on vacations, hunting & camping trips and college dorm rooms. Their light weight design makes them portable – great for taking hunting/camping trips or dorm rooms for college dorm rooms! Berkey water filters can also serve as the ideal water filtration system during natural disasters when treated tap water isn’t readily available. They make a great addition to home emergency preparedness kits as BPA free filtration solutions made of recyclable stainless steel; therefore providing effective economical yet healthy alternatives bottled water bottles.
The Berkey Water Filter Elements
Black Berkey water purification elements mechanically extract pathogens such as E. coli and Giardia duodenalis while simultaneously retaining healthy, beneficial minerals – unlike most filtration systems which may leave pathogens alive during filtration processes and reverse osmosis systems, which don’t remove E. coli or Giardia altogether.
Filters feature cylindrical shapes containing more than six media types that combine to form a compact matrix with millions of microscopic pores, providing water with an indirect path through which undesirable pollutants may travel, making for effective filtering.
The black berkey’s ion exchange technology draws in and electrolyzes heavy metal ions like mercury, lead and chromium from water molecules by drawing them closer together with electrical charges; such ions become electrically imbalanced like magnets carrying too many electrons, wanting to find their balance again by bonding to exchange particles – leaving behind clean and safe drinking water that can then be stored in lower chambers of stainless steel containers.
The Berkey Water Filter System
Berkey water filters are reliable gravity-fed systems designed to meet any situation or need. From treating tap water and well water, to source waters like lakes and streams, they produce clean drinking water at a fraction of the cost of bottled water. Certified to remove hazardous contaminants like heavy metals (lead, chromium VI), herbicides, pesticides, chlorine volatile organic compounds (VOCs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as well as pharmaceutical drugs from tap water sources, Berkey filters are certified to remove harmful contaminants like heavy metals (lead, chromium VI) from tap water sources such as treated tap water sources as well as herbicides used during processing, as well as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Black Berkey filters can effectively trap pollutants through ion exchange. Ions on molecules of harmful chemicals attempt to balance out and become neutralized; when this fails, they become drawn towards the filter surface where they are absorbed into its pores before being released back into its lower chamber.
All Berkey models feature two filters that are rated to filter 6,000 gallons each (enough water for an average family of four), making the filter lifecycle even longer and creating less plastic waste. Stainless steel construction also means reduced plastic waste!
