Fluoride addition to drinking water remains a highly contentious subject. While the health and hygiene benefits of applying fluoride directly to teeth surfaces are widely acknowledged and rarely contested, its addition into drinking water poses entirely different challenges: its effect only lasts a very short period before entering into our bloodstreams with long-lasting adverse consequences.
Replaceable PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements work effectively with Black Berkey Water Purification elements to provide an effective solution for filtering out Fluoride and Arsenic from drinking water, lasting for approximately one year under normal conditions. Each set of two PF-2 Elements lasts up to 1,000 gallons or one year when used together.
Before using, PF-2 Elements must be primed by turning each one over and priming its opposite end (reversing water flow) until all water runs clear from both ends of each element. Repeat steps 3 thru 5 until both ends yield clean running water.

Installation
PF-2 Fluoride Reducing Elements are specially engineered to work alongside Black Berkey Filter Elements to adsorb between 95-97% of fluoride contaminants and remove various heavy metals, such as arsenic. As these are post-filters, it should be placed in the lower chamber after Black Berkey elements have been installed and primed before use.
People often question the practice of adding fluoride to public water supplies as an unwise decision, especially considering that most tests indicate elevated aluminum levels despite using fluoride-filters to remove them. Yet these filters still can significantly lower fluoride levels in drinking water to negligible amounts and can easily be added onto existing filtration systems.

A system should contain an equal number of PF-2’s as there are Black Berkey elements in its upper chamber. Each set will filter approximately 1,000 gallons or one year of water usage before they should be replaced or re-primed for optimal results.
