Imperial Berkey Water Filter: Features and Performance

imperial berkey water filter

The Imperial Berkey water filter is an ideal system for providing clean, safe drinking water to medium to large families and groups, including up to six Black Berkey elements for optimal filtration capacity.

The stainless steel Berkey system chambers nest neatly inside each other for compact storage and transport, but the BPA-free plastic Berkey Light does not offer this feature.

Easy to Assemble

The Imperial Berkey comes equipped with two Black Berkey Water filter elements and can be expanded up to include up to six filters. You can also add Berkey Fluoride filters for increased protection from fluoride, heavy metals and other potential harmful contaminants in drinking water.

This powerful water purification system can be used to clean drinking, bathing and cooking water from almost any source – lakes, rivers or streams alike. Furthermore, it makes a great travel companion and emergency solution when there may be no electricity available.

A Berkey system is easy to assemble without tools or complex instructions, making for effortless operation once assembled. Once assembled, its simplicity of use makes for convenient storage away when not required – simply store away when not needed! Cleaning of its stainless steel upper and lower chambers as well as its spigot is recommended regularly to maintain optimal functionality; all-natural dish soap and scrub sponge are effective ways of doing this quickly! Once clean and ready to be used again!

Easy to Operate

Utilizing absorption, adsorption and microfiltration technologies, these freestanding systems enable you to use mechanical means alone to remove contaminants from fresh water sources without using chemicals or electricity – perfect for families, outdoor enthusiasts and emergencies where power or treated water might not be readily available.

Black Berkey filters contain a special media that consists of six or more materials layered together, and designed with millions of microscopic pores to capture pollutants as water passes through them. A complex network known as “tortuous path” connects each micropore and traps contaminants like static cling, while still permitting water through.

Black Berkey elements effectively filter trihalomethanes, inorganic minerals, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, petroleum-based chemicals and various other harmful substances from water supplies. Each filter can filter up to 6,000 gallons before needing replacement; additional PF-2 fluoride/arsenic reduction filters can also be added for greater filtering capacity and faster processing speeds.

Easy to Clean

The Imperial Berkey Water Filter System is easy to keep clean. Simply scrub its Black Berkey filters with something abrasive like a Scotch Brite pad or toothbrush to clear away accumulated sediment and other contaminants clogging its micropores, and consider cleaning your filters once every six months; an indicator for when this should happen can be when their flow rate slows considerably; another method to gauge how effective they are is by adding several drops of red food coloring directly into the filtered water itself – known as red food dye testing!

To properly clean your Berkey, start by emptying both stainless steel chambers of any contaminated water. Fill a bucket or sink with clean water and add 16 drops of bleach or iodine per gallon (this serves as a preventive measure against disinfecting containers). Next, loosen all wing nuts of Black Berkey elements from washers before placing on an appropriate solid surface upside down.

Easy to Maintain

The Imperial Berkey system effectively removes pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites while simultaneously extracting harmful chemicals like herbicides, pesticides, VOCs organic solvents and radon 222. Furthermore, this filter reduces nitrites as well as harmful minerals such as lead and mercury which could harm humans.

Cleaning a Berkey system is simple and quick – simply rinse the Black Berkey Elements with clean water to rinse them clean. Doing this regularly is key, as a dirty filter can cause your beverage to taste sour or metallic; to prevent this, keep a non-scratch 3M cleaning pad handy when cleaning elements; this will prevent process dust build-up from clogging them up with debris.

To ensure a continuous supply of clean water, invest in an additional set of Black Berkey Elements. By working together more efficiently at filtering contaminants out of water and prolonging their lifespan.
