Both Big Berkey and Pro One gravity water filters offer high-performance gravity filters capable of filtering out over 200 contaminants independently certified as hazardous by third parties.
There are, however, some notable distinctions between the two models. First of all, the Big Berkey offers more size options to select from and can filter 3.5 gallons in less time with 2 Black Berkey elements installed.
Cost
Though the upfront costs may be greater than buying and replacing pitcher filters, an air purifier is an invaluable investment for your health. Not only will its filters last much longer but their filtration capacity is significantly greater too compared to replacing them. You could save quite a lot over time!
Both the Big Berkey and ProOne provide independent lab-tested contaminant reduction rates that you can see online for yourself. Both models remove many common contaminants like lead, glyphosate, chlorine and fluoride – as well as potentially dangerous chemicals like bisphenol A copper chromium VI radioactive elements including Uranium.
Both manufacturers provide an assortment of sizes and features. You can buy a sight glass spigot to make it easier for you to check water levels, while there’s even a portable option you can bring camping or use anywhere else in remote areas. Both systems are easy to maintain; no plumbing or electricity are needed for operation and they can easily fit in a backpack or car for transport.
Flow Rates
If you need large volumes of clean drinking water quickly, the ProOne (formerly Propur) gravity water filter system could be ideal. Offering faster flow rates than Berkey filters but at an upfront cost slightly greater, ProOne may be an ideal choice.
ProOne systems range in upfront costs from $250 to $360 depending on which model is chosen, with four hours required to produce three gallons with standard two Black Berkey filters installed in the upper chamber but three filter elements reducing this time drastically to just three and a half.
ProOne filter systems also save time and hassle as there’s no need to priming filter elements – perfect if you have an already busy schedule! Additionally, each ProOne comes equipped with its own cleaning kit as standard.
Filtration Capacity
The Big Berkey system has been independently verified to remove over 200 contaminants from water, such as rust, sediment and arsenic. With enough capacity for peak consumption times such as when kids are thirsty or boiling pasta for dinner, the Big Berkey will meet all your family’s filtration needs during those peak times.
Big Berkey and ProOne both boast comparable filtration capacities. Each Black Berkey element includes six distinct filtration technologies such as ionic adsorption and absorption for greater effectiveness in removing over 200 contaminants.
ProOne employs similar filtration technology in their G2.0 filters, including ion exchange, silver ions, and carbon composites to remove over 200 different contaminants from drinking water. Their detailed performance data sheets for all their products are readily available online – these compare G2.0 filters against others to show exactly which can reduce contaminants from your drinking water supply.
Warranty
The Berkey water filter system comes with a manufacturer’s two year limited prorated warranty calculated in six month increments, covering both Black Berkey purification elements as well as the PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements. Unfortunately, however, this does not cover damages caused by user abuse (mistreatment of filters), salt water/air, lack of routine cleanings and accidents (dents from dropping etc). When returning a product the customer will incur all shipping/processing charges when sending back.
Gravity water filters are simple and portable filter systems designed for quick use that remove a wide range of contaminants such as bacteria, toxins and heavy metals. Perfect for home, office and camping use alike – gravity filters don’t require priming like other filter systems so there’s no need to make sure your filter is ready every time – perfect for people on the move who don’t have time to dedicate themselves to keeping it primed every time! They make an invaluable companion in today’s fast paced life!
