PF-2 Fluoride Filter by Berkey: Detailed Review

These PF-2 fluoride filters make an excellent addition to any Berkey water filter system, using time-tested technology to remove fluoride from drinking water sources. Fluoride has been deliberately added by municipal governments since the 1950s; however, its presence continues to draw increasing scrutiny as more research reveals potential adverse side effects.

Removing 97% of Fluoride

Fluoride provides multiple health and hygiene benefits when added directly to drinking water; however, when added directly into drinking water supply systems it only touches teeth in a very diluted state before being swallowed and potentially having far reaching and detrimental effects across the body.

A Berkey fluoride water filter pf2 can remove up to 97% of added fluoride from your drinking water, as well as contaminants such as arsenic, MTBE (methyl tertbutyl ether), and heavy metals like lead.

These fluoride reducing filters come as a set of two and can be added to Black Berkey purification elements for extra fluoride reduction. Simply screw them on the stem of the black element, sit in the lower chamber, and prime before use – however do not over tighten more than eight revolutions or they could damage their cores! They make an ideal addition to any home or travel water filtering system!

Removing Arsenic

In addition to fluoride, Berkey water system families that utilize their PF-2 filters can benefit from using filters which remove arsenic in their drinking water, as it poses serious health hazards to infants and young children. Natural or artificial fluoridation of water may expose families living in these regions to increased arsenic contamination; with Berkey filters these issues are mitigated significantly.

Fluoride filters make an excellent addition to any Black Berkey element, as they target specific contaminants that carbon filters may miss over time. Big Berkey systems can use fluoride and arsenic removal simultaneously using these PF-2 filters; up to 1,000 gallons (3,785 liters of filtration can be achieved before replacement is needed. Constructed from non-leaching food grade plastic for safe use within gravity filtration systems. Prior to first use the filters must be primed – which involves flushing away manufacturing dust that may remain present within their filters before priming occurs – for proper functioning performance ensuring optimal filtration performance of these PF-2 filters ensuring proper performance – flushing away manufacturing dust that might remain within its filter medium before priming takes effect ensuring optimal performance – flushing out manufacturing dust that might remain inside before starting up any such gravity filter system is necessary.

Removing Turbidity

Contrary to carbon-based filters that often become ineffective at removing fluoride in just a few gallons, PF-2 fluoride reduction elements have proven their reliability in uprooting it for up to 3800 gallons.

Tested against water samples contaminated with silt and sediments, these elements successfully eliminated turbidity from drinking water sources, an important function because turbid water can have adverse health consequences that include digestive distress, bloating headaches and stomach cramps.

Before using, the PF-2 fluoride filters should be primed for at least 6-10 minutes on both ends to flush away any manufacturing dust that may have settled within. Made of nontoxic BPA free plastic material and designed to work alongside Black Berkey purification elements, the filters can be stored up to one year without losing performance or becoming leaching sources of contaminants.

Easy to Install

PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic Reducing Elements were specifically created to work in concert with Black Berkey purification elements to remove unwanted fluoride, arsenic and MTBE contamination from your drinking water supply. They can fit in all Black Berkey systems EXCEPT Go Berkey Kit.

To set up the PF-2 fluoride and arsenic filters, first clean their exterior using water and mild dish washing soap, before removing their blue caps at each end. Place a light brown rubber priming button onto one end of a filter element that aligns its hole with that in its element; finally press this priming button against your sink faucet until water starts flowing out from its opposite end.

Repeat these steps with all PF-2 filter elements. When ready, fill each of your PF-2 filters with clean, cold drinking water before using your filters.
